My name is Sal (they/them). I graduated from University of California Davis with a degree in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. During my senior year I became interested in the unique neurobiology of cephalopods. My interest in this area led me to study RNA editing in the nervous system of the longfin inshore squid (Doryteuthis pealeii) under Dr. Joshua Rosenthal at the Marine Biological Laboratory. The primary focus of my research was recapitulating the RNA editing seen in vivo as a means to understand how editing is directed. I also worked on developing the Hawaiian bobtail squid (Euprymna berryi) as a model system for future research. In the Wang Lab, I hope to expand my knowledge of the octopus nervous system.
