ENDURE Undergraduate researcher
My name is Micaela Romero (she/her). I was born in the Phoenix area of Arizona, but I have long called the South Puget Sound home. I am currently an Undergraduate at Bellevue College majoring in Molecular Bioscience and was accepted into the ENDURE Program at the University of Washington for the 2024-2025 academic year to gain experience in Neuroscience research. My most sincere passion is to use neuroscience to further pursuits of social justice and equity. I work as a community activist outside of the lab and exchange information between communities of scientists, activists, directly-impacted individuals, and elected officials to make informed decisions for real solutions. I am currently focusing on isolation studies in ZYWang Lab with Bumblebees to help pass legislation to change how WA state uses solitary confinement in our corrections systems. In my free time, I’m wrapped around my son’s finger. He will be turning 6 soon and we love to camp, kayak, ride bikes, garden, play Donkey Kong Country, cat cuddles with our Wynona girl, and walks with our dog Bennett.
